Badass Feminist
Hi there,
I'm Asya, a 21 years old student from Frankfurt, Germany. In 2016 I had to do a presentation about Feminism especially about Frida Kahlo in Spanish. My accomplices and I watched the movie where Salma Hayek was impersonating Frida. At first I couldn't accept the way she was, that she kissed another woman and was shown naked in many scenes in the movie. I did a research about Frida Kahlo because it made me curious. The more I researched the more I get fascinated about her. She was different than women. I started to read more and more. I've read several books and posts from actual feminists. I realized that I was at this time a young woman living between her four walls. I realized that media and especially the society taught us to be fragile creatures and act like that but only we can change this cliche! "Bad-ass feminist" that's what my well-known circle calls me, when I start to talk. They even roll their eyes, but I don't care. And sometimes they think that I am crazy and start to laugh at me, but they don't realize that they are limited in their thinking. I only try to help them, but lots of my female friends and cousins say that I can't change the world. No I can't, but we can do this together!!! So now I want to become a part of this feminist community. I think that it's time to practice and not only to follow and read the articles. I decided to apply for a project in India and got accepted. With this decision I want to learn more about the culture and why women are treated so badly. So I hope that I get a "Women Empowerment Project". This year in India will teach me a lot, because later, after uni I want to do developing work, especially in asian countries. On this platform I want to meet new people, who are also interested in feminism and want to break down the patriarchy systems, I want to organize events and demonstrations and events but most importantly I want to become a part of the feminist community.
