“I march for people who can't”
Photographer, Advocate
Hi. I'm April. I take photos to tell stories, share experiences, and encourage action.
Born and raised in the Philippines, I moved to Winnipeg in 2015. Since then, I've pursued my passion with the goal of creating work that inspire the community. I focus on capturing split moments, peak experiences, and untold stories.
My first reportage assignment was documenting the first train ride back to Churchill after the service shutdown - a collaboration between Canadian Geographic Travel and Via Rail Canada. I've shot for anticipated community events (Winnipeg Folk Festival, Festival du Voyageur, Winnipeg Crankie Festival, ManyFest), covered events that call for action (Take Back The Night, UN Refugee Campaign, Women's March Winnipeg), and documented experiences at the best places in the region (Exchange District, The Forks).
Sometimes I write. Sometimes I create quirky side projects. But most of my day is spent trying to make my fiancee laugh, on walking adventure, playing with my nieces, finding good spots to hang out and eat in the city, and working on my photography.
