“To shed light that discrimination is alive and well in the 21st century. To demonstrate that a lot of work is still ongoing.”

I am a veteran and was active duty many years ago. I worked in the Public Affairs Field in Community Liaison and as a military reporter for our base newspaper and broadcasting station.. I will eventually transfer to Sacramento State earning a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis on Community Service and English Writing. I strive to equip myself with the insights that Sociology can give to me as a writer, especially in reference to women, women incarcerated, abused children, and cultural responsiveness.
At 61 years young, I want to dive into this course and have my eyes opened wide while my mind gleans insight to help myself. As an aging female in this society I realize that often where youthfulness is lifted up the elderly can become a casualty of ageism and the like. I want to help my adult daughters realize their voice and potential--and not have it spoon-fed to them from the likes of the media, politics, etc.. I also want them to realize what women’s rights cost suffragists like Alice Paul, which was often a brutal fight for voting rights and general respect. I am an example of it’s never too late to find one’s voice, because my voice is stronger now than ever before.
