WOMEN’S MARCH PETALUMA PLANNING COMMITTEE STATEMENT
Our group of organizers have considered from the outset how to host an event that is inclusive of our community. We have participants from many backgrounds, including organizers who are Jewish women and from our LGBTQ community, as well as speakers who are Jewish, Palestinian, People of Color, LGBTQ, our youth and our elders. We recognize that controversy around anti-Semitism at the National level arose after the first march in 2017 and are aware that these issues around prejudice, racism, and stereotypes are again in the news. Although we are not making a judgment or assumption that the National March is anti-Semitic, we want to emphasize that we will let that group speak for themselves. The spirit and mission of the Women's March Petaluma is to lift up the voices of ALL women, and we are working independently to create an event that is our own. When working with people from different oppressed groups, challenges of understanding will arise. We are striving to make our event inclusive so that together we can do something good in the world and advance solutions to issues affecting women.
