Women are 14 times more likely than men are to die from climate-change related natural disasters. Here are some of the reasons that we are marching:
- Climate change means that natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more severe.
- Women, people in coastal areas, people in the Global South, indigenous people, and poor people are the most affected; yet they are the ones who contribute to it the least.
- Investments that take place in rich countries, like Switzerland, directly fuel climate change.
- The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warned in 2018 that if we don't limit global warming by 1.5°C by 2030, it'll be too late.
Our consumerist culture, based on unlimited growth and profit, is unsustainable and is already destroying the world. We need to act. We need to call for radical policy change and a change in business practices.
Join us in calling for this change on 18 January at Ile Rousseau.
